The story of Northeast Association Management (NEAMI) begins with founder and president, Brent A. Wilkes. In 1989, Mr. Wilkes and five other partners founded MMA Consulting Group. MMA Consulting Group, Inc. (MMACG), formerly a division of the Massachusetts Municipal Association, was incorporated in 1989 to serve the management needs of local governments. From 1989 to 1995, the firm conducted scores of consulting projects for local governments all over the country on virtually all aspects of municipal management. The firm also began several long-term assignments to manage services on behalf of local governments and non-profit associations that serve local governments.

In 1995, MMA Consulting Group was dissolved. MMA Management Services was established to focus on long-term management assignments with non-profit associations. The name of the company was updated in 1999 to Northeast Association Management, Inc. The current name more accurately reflects the services that NEAMI provides and the geographical area that it serves from it’s Latham, NY office.

In March 2017, NEAMI was acquired by York Risk Services Group (RSG), a premier national provider of claims management and pool administration. NEAMI now operates under York Pooling, a division of York RSG. NEAMI’s space, staff, information systems, and financial and HR infrastructure can be easily and efficiently scaled to assume the responsibilities of managing and administering the management needs of non-profit associations on a partial or comprehensive basis. Associations may outsource some functions, such as advertising sales or bookkeeping, or they be managed entirely by an association management company. There are approximately 500 association management companies in the United States.

Our Founder

Brent Wilkes, ARM CAE, Founder

Brent Wilkes is the founder and former president of Northeast Association Management, Inc. (NEAMI) and he worked for more than forty years with local governments and non-profit associations.  He served in state and local governments in various management capacities, and in senior management positions and on the board of directors of a number of non-profit associations. In 1989, after 14 years in city management and municipal association management, Brent launched MMA Consulting Group, Inc., which led to the incorporation of Northeast Association Management, Inc. in 1995.

During his career, Brent earned a bachelors’ degree in political science and a masters’ degree in public affairs as well as designations as a Certified Association Executive (CAE) from the American Society of Association Executives and an Associate in Risk Management (ARM) from the Insurance Institute of America. A regular public speaker, Brent also taught public finance and budgeting at the Suffolk University Graduate School of Management in Boston, and authored several articles on public administration for regional and national trade journals.  He is a past president of the Association of Government Risk Pools (AGRIP) and executive director emeritus of Public Employer Risk Management Association (PERMA).
